The shooting happened Sept. 7 in the 3300 block of 27th Avenue, near Franklin Boulevard and a block away from the Sacramento Police Department's main office, as police were trying to stop a vehicle driven by Eric Arnold, 41, who was wanted in connection with a double homicide, Sgt. Bryce Heinlein said. The video showed Arnold pull over in a black truck. Sacramento police then called for Arnold several times to put "his hands up" and "exit the vehicle." Arnold initially complied with officers and tossed his keys out the window. But seconds later, Arnold got out of the truck and fired six shots at officers, striking two of them. Five Sacramento officers returned fire, killing Arnold. The officers have been identified as 27-year veteran Timothy Martin, 12-year veteran Victor Wolfe, 19-year veteran Joshua Dobson, 26-year veteran Richard Hitchcock and 14-year veteran Robert Williams. Martin and Wolf were injured by Arnold's gunfire, but both survived. The department said officers fired 36 rounds at Arnold, hitting him 14 times. The Sacramento Police Department released the video as part of its effort to be transparent with the community. "While the investigation is still ongoing, it is important to the Sacramento Police Department that the community has a full understanding of how the incident unfolded," the department said in a news release. The department plans to release more video of the shooting in the next week. Arnold was wanted in the deaths of two women who were found dead Sept. 1 at a home in the 1400 block of Janrick Avenue. Officers found the women's bodies in a bathroom when they arrived. Both women died from gunshot wounds, and someone had tried to set their bodies on fire, police said. The women have been identified as Erica Wallace, 45, and Kiara Lasalle, 17. Both are from Sacramento. Wallace was Arnold's ex-girlfriend and Lasalle was Wallace's daughter, police said. No additional details have been released.
